It's a little known fact, but a fact all the same, that South African Chenin Blanc wines are among the world's finest.

The two main areas in the world where Chenin Blanc is grown are in the Loire Valley in France and in the Cape Winelands, South Africa.

France has 10,000 ha and the Cape has 20,000 ha planted. It is believed that the first plantings of Chenin Blanc in South Africa were made by the French Huguenots, fleeing France after the Edict of Nantes in 1685 and emigrating to the Cape.

Winemaker Adriaan Jacobs

This Chenin's grapes were night harvested, picked by hand to retain flavours.

The Grapes were then gently crushed and pressed. The majority of the wine was cold fermented to show freshness and fruit. It was kept on the lees for 11months to give the wine a creamy mouth-feel. 25% of barrel-fermented wine was blended with the tank-fermented portion (75%) to add a wooded dimension.

Tasting Notes:

A stunning nose of lemon zest, pomelo and sliced green apple. The palate is well-balanced, creamy and vibrant. Flavours of guava, white peach and apricot are present. The subtle use of oak adds depth and concentrates the flavour. This wine has excellent ageing potential.

Best Enjoyed:

Vegetarian dishes. Also try with spicy food, mild and soft cheeses. Seafood and shellfish.

Ageing Potential: 5 Years after vintage.
Serving Temperature: Recommended to be served at 13°C.
